The 1950’s are out and change is in the air! Hairspray, winner of 8 TONY Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs.
It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire — to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her ‘do!
YES Theatre is proud to be presenting this land-mark musical. A story that is socially and politically relevant to our community and our audience. We are very happy to welcome Jennifer Stewart to direct our production. Jennifer is a director, actor, singer and dancer. Recently, she directed The Heiress at the Bluff City Theater in Hannibal, MO. She has directed Bye Bye Birdie for Talk Is Free Theatre and Shakespeare’s Woman. Next summer she will be directing Best of Enemies for the Bluff City Theater and Hairspray for YES Theatre. Currently, she is completing her MFA in Theatre Directing at East 15/University of Essex in London, UK. As an actor she has played leading roles with the Stratford Festival, Mirvish Productions-Original Canadian Company of HAIRSPRAY, Drayton Entertainment, Talk Is Free Theatre, the Grand Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Rainbow Stage, Theatre Aquarius, YPT/NAC, the Sudbury Theatre Centre and the Lighthouse Festival.

Hairspray will be performed by YES Theatre August 11 – 28, 2016 at the Sudbury Theatre Centre
