Our Mandate

Yes Theatre fosters emerging performance artists in Northern Ontario by producing youth-driven narratives that invigorate audiences.

We present contemporary and classical pieces with a fresh aesthetic for a new generation of theatre-goers. We also develop new original Canadian musical theatre works through our From the Ground Up initiative.

We have developed a community of artists and patrons who are passionate about celebrating the energy our work brings to the city. Our theatre is a place of congregation that provides artistic context and togetherness for our community.

Yes Theatre operates annually with a summer repertory festival and the Yes Theatre Orchestra in December.

In December of 2017, we launched the YES Theatre Orchestra with our highly successful concert production of Beauty and the Beast. This is a new division of the company where we present musical theatre pieces that feature lush scores with a full orchestra. Each December we will continue to offer family-friendly musical selections in Concert. The intention is to ensure these musicals are heard the way they were intended to be heard- with full orchestration. This offers our patrons a very intimate experience with the music; stripping away the technical elements of a full production and allowing the music to take centre stage.
We are certain this initiative will become a celebrated community holiday tradition.
Stay tuned for information on our 10 year anniversary season and the orchestra selection!

From the Ground Up is a new initiative that will see the development of an original musical created to debut at YES Theatre’s 10 year anniversary in 2019. This project will undergo development over the next two years. It will bring together numerous local youth and artists with the intention of depicting what it is to be a young person in Northern Ontario.

There is a renaissance taking place in the Canadian Musical Theatre scene and we believe that, being in Northern Ontario, we have a responsibility to ensure that our stories, and our voice, are represented on the national stage. From the Ground Up will mark YES Theatre’s first original piece.
