Matinees for Schools

Discover. Develop. Play. Perform.

YES Theatre invites you to step out of the classroom and into the magical world of the stage this season!

Thousands of students attend productions at the Sudbury Theatre Centre each year, where they experience the best of professional theatre at Northern Ontario’s premier performance facility.

We offer a variety of programming suitable for elementary and secondary school audiences that will excite and engage students and educators alike. Each production tells a story that will resonate with children and/or youth – some also feature student actors, or adults playing youthful characters that your students will easily identify with.

All productions present opportunities for classroom discussion and lesson tie-ins, offering themes and content to match curriculum material and character education topics.

ALICE IN WONDERLANDApril/May 2025

From the team that brought you Peter Pan comes the 6 Dora Mavor Moore Award Winning show, Alice in Wonderland. This contemporary spin from Bad Hats Theatre moves straight from the Toronto stage to the Sudbury Theatre Centre and takes you down the rabbit hole to a Wonderland like you’ve never seen before.

Alice is a young girl with too many questions at an age when there only seems to be room for answers. Sent to the corner of her classroom to finish her homework, she spots a white rabbit in the schoolyard and so begins an adventure to a land even stranger than the one she’s left behind. This fast-paced, heart-felt comedy serves up the whimsy of Wonderland you know and love, with a contemporary twist that brings Lewis Carroll’s upside-down questions about the world into our modern age. This new adaptation of the beloved classic that has captured our imagination for generations is perfect for kids and kids-at-heart.

Two matinees for schools: Wednesday April 30 and Friday May 2 – 10:30 am

CHOIR! – May 2025

CHOIR! is a semi-autobiographical musical comedy written by Anika Johnson and Barbara Johnston, the same team who wrote last season’s Young Company production ONE SMALL STEP.

Long before ‘Glee’ and ‘American Idol,’ there were Community Youth Choirs across the land where young singers gathered because they loved to sing, loved each other, or “their mother made them do it!” CHOIR! is a musical comedy that follows the Tierce de Picardie Children’s Chorus (TDPCC) through a year of the ups and downs of their lives and their music under the exacting baton of their intrepid leader Mary Dean. Headed for the bright lights of the big choir competition in Sudbury, they dream of choir glory but find a bigger prize along the way.
